Environmental Concerns

Preservation, Conservation and Education

Fred.\ understands the importance of keeping these unique environments just the way they are and so we only work with operators that have a strong commitment to protecting the destinations that they visit. Places such as Antarctica and Spitsbergen are among the most remote and untouched landscapes on the earth and so there is a desire to ensure that by visiting we do not adversely affect them; spoiling them for others and destabilising their fragile environments.

Each expedition operator will have their own way of preserving these locations, but all believe that education is the most powerful way to ensure that they are left intact. Some ships will offer carbon neutral voyages, some operators will offset their emissions in other ways, and some will have projects occurring all over the world to help preserve, conserve and sustain these beautiful regions.

We ask that you take extra care to be environmentally conscious during your trip; ensuring not to drop any litter, remove anything from the location in which you found it without permission, and make a commitment to follow the lead and instructions of your expedition guides at all times.

By looking out for these pristine environments you can help safeguard them so that future explorers can enjoy them just as much as you have.
